There is nothing you can do to manually write or fix the registry entries. But seeing as your version is broken and cannot run, you don't have any choice but to reinstall. It will definitely ask you for a serial number when you reinstall, unless you use a crack to stop that from happening.
It's extensively documented elsewhere (especially Steam) and there's no functional difference between the Steam version, the pirate version or the legitimate version, so it's the same steps regardless.
